Foreigners are not allowed to directly buy or own land in Bali or Indonesia, as per the Indonesian Agrarian Law, the land ownership is only reserved for Indonesian citizens or Indonesian legal entities.
However, there are a few ways for foreigners to purchase land in Bali, by setting up an Indonesian legal entity, such as a PMA (foreign investment company) or a PT (Indonesian limited liability company) and also through a leasehold agreement.
Setting up an Indonesian legal entity: This involves setting up a PMA or PT, and then purchasing the land through the company. This can be a more secure way for foreigners to own land, but it can be costly and time-consuming to set up the company and comply with regulations.
Leasehold agreement: Foreigners can purchase land on a leasehold basis, where they can lease the land for a specific period of time, usually 25 or 30 years. The lease can be renewed at the end of the period.
It’s important to consult with legal experts and ensure that the land purchase is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations before making any decisions.
